Walnut hull blasting media to clean bottom

Has anyone had any experience with using Walnut Hulls as a blasting medium. Supposed to be very Gentle?

BTW I know and believe the best is Soda but am 60 miles out in the woods and my big blaster can use walnut hills but not soda. Will be difficult to impossible to get a soda blaster firm out here.

Walnut shells were used on my F32 hull, and they worked great. The sandblaster's bill was $450, which I thought was very reasonable.

Walnut is ok to use , with a good user gelcoat should be ok .

you going to barrier coat her before paint ?

I am pretty sure I will have to. Presently the bottom looks like the PO made a good start on sanding and filling in. To be on the safe side I believe I should. However once it is blasted I will rexamine.

If I barrier coat it looks to me the present recomended coating is Polyester resin type of paint, listening to opinions on PE or Epoxy for barrier coat.

Best not to skip the barrier coat, no matter which system you choose. It's as easy as the first coat of paint.

"Polyester resin type of paint," ? thats not a barrier coat .( not sure what it is LOL )

You have interlux 2000 barrier coat ( and similar products ) , vinylester or a epoxy .

I'm using the Interlux 2000 on mine when they do it next spring. Pretty expensive but my research indicates it is a great product.

Yep, I probably got an old can of latex wall paint around here somewhere, might keep fish out, if that don't work out too well, I'll get some of that vinyl stuff. LOL

get some of that stuff that's in a can , it seals screen doors in john-boats you can it the as seen on tv section at walmart....not sayin'I agree with it...just tryin' to help..
