naw what he is say I think is if it takes 8 hrs at 8 knots, and 4 hrs at 16 it's the same burn rate.
which can be true at times. With my hull if I go over hull speed just a little or if I'm heading in to the chop I might as well get her up on plane and 14.
I think that was his point...

I run my old boat at about 1300 rpm and about two beers per hour (depending on the heat)

Your example only works if the cruising speed burn rate is double/or less the hull speed rate of fuel consumption.
Mine burns around four times as much (at least) at 3000 rpm as at 1400. So it takes about twice as much fuel to get there in half the time.
I geuss if you factor in the PBRPH rate it is a wash!!!

I was just trying to make since of what I was reading. You all read it and tell me what he was tryin to say. And every boat on this site is going to have different burn rates. I was giving generality..
