velvet drive linkage
seeing as it it 12 sleeps till launch, I have decided to pull my port transmission and strip it down to cure it of its "walk" habit in neutral. Anyhow I think my linkage is not correct, has anyone got a pick of the shift linkage? And how it connects to to the cable or a diagram? Ok I have to get back to my hang over now
First night at the club last night

tried those before I posted, but thanks guys! What I am looking for is how the boat cables connect to the transmission, currently the inner cable is attached to the bell housing and the outer is connected to the shift lever on the tranny, this makes for a lot of slop and I cannot feel the detente ball click into place for neutral

that would be very much appreciated! Thanks! As I speak one of my guys has headed to the club to start taking the tranny out, due to my snowplow business I have two mechanics on staff, one of which specialty is building transmissions, the other worked as a marine mechanic before he came with me, on that note another one of my guys used to restore wood boats, so seeing as my procrastination skills were at thier best this winter, the admiral has given the green light to put him in the boat to get it done.

Dave, usually the detent is set up at the helm control. I would not solely rely feeling it from the tranny as component wear (cable, remote) will deminish the detent feel, and a detent at the remote gives a more positive engagement/disengagement feel IMO. The helm control should have a detent setting/adjustment. Set the control in neutral and the detent tention, set the tranny in neutral, then adjust the cable linkage at the tranny accordingly. Don't forget one or two additional turns to take up slack. If done right, the tranny and remote detents will engage at the same time. If you have two helms, the only detents that should be set up to operate is the lower station, the upper detents should be disconnected unless there are two sets of cables going to each tranny.
